Once you have completed Airborne Training you will be authorized to participate in Ranger Field Training Exercises (FTX) as well as Airborne and Ranger Combat Missions. U.S. Army Rangers are issued the M4A1 Carbine, which is equipped with a Reflex sight or M68 Aimpoint (depending upon the mission).
The U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia is specifically designed to develop leadership and combat skills in Soldiers whose main mission is to engage the enemy in close-combat, direct fire battle. It's a voluntary force that demands a personal commitment, hard work and a will to succeed. To qualify for Ranger School Soldiers must pass a rigorous physical fitness test, a combat water survival test and complete an assessment phase that includes a 5-mile run, a 16-mile foot march, a land navigation test and an obstacle course. Ranger candidates then begin a 9-week training course that is divded into 3 phases.
The two Ranger Missions in America's Army: Mountain Ambush and Swamp Raid are intended to replicate the environment and challenges respective of the actual Ranger Training conducted there.
For more information about the actual training conducted at Ranger School visit the Virtual Recruiting Station and speak w/ SFC Gerald Wolford, who can provide a short video overview.
