Weapons Familiarization

Here you will get to familiarize yourself with the other frequently used weapons found in America’s Army. Once again, follow the instructions of the drill instructor. He will walk you through the capabilities and specifications for each weapon and you will be required to pass a test at each weapon station to prove your proficiency.

You will get to use:

• The M9 9mm (NATO) Pistol
• The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW)
• The M203 - 40mm grenade launcher
• The M136 AT4 Light Anti-Tank Weapon (LAW)
• The M141 Bunker Defeat Munition (BDM)

M9 Station

The instructor will walk you through the details of the M9 9mm (NATO) Pistol. You will then be able to practice with 2 magazines on the M9 Range. Once you have exhausted your 2 magazines you will be provided a 3rd magazine of 15 rounds with which you must successfully engage and hit 10 out of 15 targets to procede to the next training station.

M249 Station

At this station you will be given the opportunity to train on the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). You will be instructed to load up a 100 round Box Magazine and practice engaging distant targets. Once you have exhausted your ammunition the test will begin. You must sucessfully engage and hit 6 targets with a 50 round Box Magazine to procede to the next station.

M203/AT4/BDM Station

The purpose of this station is to train Soldiers in the use of Propelled Ordnance.

You will first be given the M203 - 40mm grenade launcher with which to practice. You will be tested on your accuracy by being required to engage and successfully hit the target in the window. You must hit the target at least once , your are provided with 3 rounds.

Next you will be trained in the correct usage of the M136 AT4 Light Anti-Tank Weapon (LAW). You will have 3 practice shots at the tank hulk downrange. With the 4th shot you must successfully engage and hit the tank hulk.

Finally you will be trained in the use of the M141 Bunker Defeat Munition (BDM)

. As with the AT4 you will have 3 practice shots at a bunker installation downrange. With the 4th you must successfully engage and hit the Bunker.
